How I’m Going to Make Money with Fashion content as a busy mom

Today I had a lightbulb moment: I’ve spent so much time curating outfits, researching styles, and putting together fashion advice for my blog. Why not turn all that effort into something people can actually buy?

As a busy mom, I’m always looking for ways to make life more manageable—and that includes finding ways to earn money that don’t take up all my time. That’s where creating fashion lookbooks comes in.

Fashion content is one of my favorite things to create. I love the idea of helping other women, especially moms, simplify their wardrobe choices and feel confident in their style. Turning this into a business just makes sense.

What Kind of Fashion Content Will I Create?

Instead of just blogging or posting tips on Instagram, I’m going to focus on digital fashion lookbooks.

These are beautifully designed guides filled with outfit ideas, styling tips, and shopping links that people can download and use immediately. They save time for busy women who want to look put-together without the guesswork.

Why Lookbooks Are Perfect to make money with fashion content

Creating lookbooks is scalable. Once I design one, I can sell it over and over again. Plus, they’re easy to produce digitally, which means I can work on them during naptime or after bedtime.

For my first project, I’m creating a lookbook of 80 office outfits that work for all body types. It’s perfect for moms transitioning back to work or anyone looking for polished, professional style ideas.

My Step-by-Step Plan

Here’s how I’m going to make this work:

1. Defining My Niche

For my first lookbook, I’ve chosen office fashion as my focus. It’s practical, in demand, and perfect for women who want effortless style for their workday.

However, I plan to branch out into other specific styles that are trending and highly sought after, like preppy style, street style, London style, and French style. I discovered the demand for these niches by using Keysearch, my go-to tool for finding profitable content ideas and trends.

If you’re thinking about starting a fashion content business or creating lookbooks of your own, Keysearch is a must-have. It helps you uncover what people are searching for online, so you can tailor your content to meet real demand. It’s simple to use and incredibly insightful for finding untapped opportunities.

Want to check it out? Here’s the link to Keysearch to get started. (P.S. There’s a free trial, so you can test it out before committing!)

By focusing on what people are already searching for, I can ensure my lookbooks are relevant and in-demand—which means better sales and a more engaged audience.

2. Design the Lookbooks

I’m using Canva to create professional, easy-to-navigate designs. Each lookbook will include:

  • A mix of affordable and splurge-worthy pieces.

  • I'll add affiliate links for each items. Thanks to collective voice and amazon affiliates.

  • Tips for accessorizing and layering.

  • A seasonal wardrobe checklist for easy outfit planning.

3. Set Up My Shop

I’m creating a storefront on Shopify where customers can instantly download my lookbooks. It cost only $1 a month. There is also a free trial.

4. Market the Lookbooks

Here’s how I’ll promote them:

  • Pinterest Pins: I’ll design pins featuring outfit ideas from the lookbook with direct links to my shop.

I plan to use only Pinterest for now even though I have an instagram page because my schedule will not allow me manage two social media accounts.

I already have professional looking Pin templates; I'll use it to streamline the process of creating pins.

5. Build an Email List

To get consistent sales, I need to build an audience. So I’ll create a freebie, like a mini lookbook with 10 outfit ideas, and offer it in exchange for email addresses.

Once I have an email list, I’ll:

  • Share styling tips to keep them engaged.

  • Announce new lookbooks and exclusive discounts.

What Success Will Look Like

Here are my goals for the first 6 months:

  • Sell 500 copies of my first lookbook at $15 each, generating $7,500.

  • Build an email list of 1,000 subscribers.

  • Create a second lookbook focused on seasonal capsule wardrobes.

To achieve this, I’ll dedicate time every week:

  • Sunday: Plan Pinterest content (2 hours).

  • Tuesday: Create 5 new Pinterest pins (1 hour).

  • Saturday: Track sales and adjust strategy (1 hour).

Why I’m Excited About This

Selling lookbooks excites me because it combines all the things I love: fashion, creativity, and helping others. It’s also a scalable business model. Once the lookbook is created, I can sell it over and over without doing extra work.

Plus, I love the idea of making fashion more accessible. My lookbooks aren’t just pretty PDFs—they’re practical guides that take the stress out of getting dressed.
